Shasha Zou Receives AGU Scarf Award

Please join us in congratulating Shasha Zou who is the 2010 recipient of the prestigious F. L. Scarf Award. The award, which is given by the Space Physics and Aeronomy Section of the AGU, recognizes an outstanding dissertation that contributes directly to solar-planetary science.

Dr. Zou completed her doctoral work at UCLA and joined AOSS last November and as an Assistant Research Scientist working with Mark Moldwin, a member of her dissertation committee.

In addition to Shasha’s outstanding dissertation, “Evolution of High Latitude Ionospheric Convection Associated with Substorms: Multiple Radar Observations,” she has been very active in presenting her research through more than sixty publications, invited presentations, seminars and colloquia while completing her doctoral studies.

Shasha has received the UCLA Jacob A. Bjerknes Award for most promising graduate student and a COSPAR young scientist and outstanding student travel grant. She is a frequent reviewer for JGR-Space Physics, GRL; the executive secretary for the 2010 NASA Geospace Review Panel; and is a panel reviewer for the 2010 NSF Space Weather program (Magnetospheric Physics).

Congratulations and welcome to AOSS Shasha.
