Assistant Professor Sarah Aciego Wins Packard Fellowship

Congratulations to AOSS Assistant Professor Sarah Aciego for winning a Packard Fellowship for Science and Engineering. According to an interview with the Detroit Free Press, Aciego plans to use the money to travel to Greenland and study ice believed to be 2.5 million-years-old.

The fellowship is $875,000. She is one of 16 academics from across the country to win the fellowship.

“My specialty and what I got the award for is that I developed a method to determine the age of ice based on chemistry,” Aciego told the Free Press. “It’s a very specialized technique in which we measure the weight of dust in ice.”
