Professor Jim Slavin’s paper highlighted in AGU research spotlight

Professor Jim Slavin’s paper, “MESSENGER observations of a flux-transfer-event shower at Mercury” has been selected as an AGU Research Spotlight. The highlight was published online and is featured in the AGU newspaper, Eos.

Co-authors include doctoral students Gina DiBraccio and Jim Raines, and Professor Thomas Zurbuchen.

The abstract states, “The authors suggest that if MESSENGER had not orbited out of the path of the events emanating from the southern magnetic pole, then FTEs (Flux Transfer Events) likely would have continued to be detected until the interplanetary magnetic field conditions became unfavorable for reconnection.”
