Graduate Student Weiye Yao wins NCAR Fellowship

Doctoral Student Weiye Yao was selected for an NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research) Advanced Study Program Graduate Student Visitor Fellowship.

Yao is spending May through July 2014 working with Drs. Jadwiga Richter, Julio Bacmeister and Peter Lauritzen of the Climate and Global Dynamics Division on simulations of upper atmospheric phenomena. In particular, Yao will focus on simulations of the tropical Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO) and polar Sudden Stratospheric Warmings (SSW) in the stratosphere.

The Graduate Student Visitor Program is designed to provide NCAR staff opportunities to bring graduate students to NCAR for 3 to 12-month collaborative visits with the endorsement of their thesis advisors and in pursuit of their thesis research. These visits have the goal of enhancing NCAR partnerships with other public and private institutions.

Yao’s advisor is Associate Professor Christiane Jablonowski.
