Former SPRL Director Tim Killeen named UI President

Dr. Tim Killeen was recently named the 20th president of the University of Illinois, pending formal approval by the Board of Trustees.

Killeen came to SPRL (Space Physics Research Laboratory) in 1987 as a post-doctoral fellow for Professor Paul Hays. In 1993 Killeen became the SPRL director. He also served as an AOSS Professor. In 1997, Killeen was appointed U-M Associate Vice President for Research and stepped down as the SPRL director the following year. In 2000 Killeen left U-M to become the Director of NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research).

Killeen brings to UI the experience of more than three decades as a teacher, researcher and administrator in public higher education and in top leadership positions with national scientific research agencies.
