Professor Huang chaired the HISE 2015 conference of OSA

Associate Professor Xianglei Huang chaired the Hyperspectral Imaging and Sounding of Environment (HISE) 2015 conference with Dr. Alan Schaum from the Navy Research Laboratory on March 2 – 4.

The HISE conference is one of the regular topic meetings of Optical Society of America (OSA). This year the HISE conference was collocated with the FTS (Fourier Transform Spectroscopy) conference at the UCLA conference center in Lake Arrowhead, California.

The meeting focused on the frontiers in hyperspectral imaging and sounding applications, such as anomaly target detection, retrieval of atmospheric and surface parameters, and polarized hyperspectral observations. Assisted by the OSA staff, Huang and Schaum have been working since last September for the planning and preparation of this conference.

The United Nations named 2015 as the International Year of Light to “raise awareness of the achievements in light science and its applications.” The HISE 2015 conference was a good echo of the theme of the International Year of Light.
