This past week, three Climate & Space students were invited to meet with U-M President Mark Schlissel and Vice President for Student Life E. Royster Harper, along with students from several other departments. During the fall and winter terms, President Schlissel and Vice-President Harper invite interested students to attend a Fireside Chat, an opportunity for students to join a candid conversation with the university’s leadership.

According to CLaSP undergrad, Kimberly Frauhammer (’17), “it was a very cool experience,” and students were able to talk freely about campus issues that bothered them. The most pressing issue was student mental health. “A lot of people had great ideas on how to help students deal with stress and small things professors can do to make classroom atmosphere not as competitive,” said Kimberly. Other topics included campus climate, and financial aid, and ideas for improving the student experience over all.

“It was a very rewarding experience and I'm glad I went!” said Kimberly.
