CLaSP Research Fellow earns first place award for presentation at laser conference

Postdoctoral Research Fellow Arijit Bose earned a first place award for a poster he presented at the 2018 User Group Meeting for the National Ignition Facility (NIF) & Jupiter Laser Facility (JLF) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

 Arijit’s poster, which won the Poster Presentation by a Postdoctoral Scholar section, was titled, "Analysis of trends in direct drive cryogenic implosions on OMEGA, the reconstruction of the implosion core and extrapolation to National Ignition Facility Energies.”

"This year is the first time I attended this meeting," says Arijit. "It was a sort of exploration on my end. I wished to meet the scientists, post docs, and students working there, and think about future proposals for research and experiments that could be done at these facilities."

The NIF - JLF user group meeting happens annually, and the aim is to bring together scientists and students doing research at the facilities. Attendees review experiments and scientific output done during the past year, as well as review proposals for the coming year. the group is also briefed about the laser facility, maintenance, and the current funding situation. 

NIF & Photon Science is a principal directorate of  Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in Livermore, California. The directorate operates the National Ignition Facility (NIF), the world’s largest and highest-energy laser.
